Dremel 8050™ Micro
8V Micro Rotary Tool
The Micro 8050 rotary tool was designed with a pencil-style grip for extreme precision, positioning, and control for light duty work. Built-in LED lights provide added illumination to the work area, and the docking station quickly recharges the built-in Li-Ion batteries for cord-free usage.
This multi-year project was the culmination of motor and battery technology catching up to the advanced goals for this project. As a combined team, both PlusD2 and Dremel needed to maintain a power to run-time that would better serve the end user, as based on prior user feedback. The goal to keep this tool as compact as possible and yet have the power to service specific user needs was a technological challenge at that time.
The result of Dremel and PlusD2’s focus on development resulted in a tool design that fulfills the users targeted needs – power, compact, versatile, rechargeable. Additionally, a new visual aesthetic evolved out of this project that expanded the boundaries of the VBL and included fresh thinking for the CFM (color/finish/materials) specifications. The PlusD2 team guided the ergonomics, form factor, and aesthetic and maintained control of those key concerns throughout the design process. Working with the Dremel engineering team, the final tool was prepared for production/DFM.
