Bosch Rotozip DR1™
Professional rotary tool
The DR1 was specifically targeted at the professional drywall installer. It’s housing, hand grip and mechanism were built for rugged, continuous, every-day usage with an ergonomic rear grip for single hand control. A perfected vent design prevents dust from interfering with the user’s vision, while replaceable brushes and service parts allow for easy, on-site maintenance.
Extensive on-site user research led to the actionable insight that empowered the development of this tool. The understanding of how the professional user interacts with the tool, material, and environment, allowed the team to develop the focused pistol grip to lessen fatigue and increase comfort. This grip provides the user maximum single-handed control, precision positioning and vibration dampening in order to most efficiently complete the task.
The PlusD2 team worked closely with the internal Dremel Engineering team to fully design and develop the product into a production-ready tool. The process included multiple iterative ergonomic concepts and corresponding mock-ups were developed and fabricated in order for the team to focus on the final implementation of the preferred ergonomic direction and exterior aesthetic. This final design was then further tested and validated by users prior to finalization. This design and its visual brand language became the standard for Rotozip.
